The King and I
作品の紹介とあらすじ： イギリスで、英語教師として実際にタイを訪れたイギリス人女性マーガレット・ランドンが、フィクションの部分を取り入れながら自分の経験談を描いた「アンナとシャム王」という小説を元にしてミュージカル化されたもののリバイバル。舞台の設定は１８６０年。シャム王の子供たちの英語教師としてイギリスから呼ばれた未亡人のアンナが、シャムで絶大なる権力を持つ王様と衝突しながらも、お互いに尊敬し惹かれて行く様子が描かれている。しかし、元々好奇心が強く欧州の文化をも取り入れようとするシャム王は、次第にアンナの主張するイギリスの個人の自由の尊重と、王様としての権限を執行して国の統制を保つ政治の二つの矛盾する選択の中で自信を失い、最後にはその心身の疲労で死に至る。
